Pre Election Funk and Soul Dance Party

Pre Election Funk and Soul Dance Party

The balloons have dropped, the delegates have spoken, and tomorrow, individuals will go out and vote for the next President of the United States of America.

Regardless of the outcome, however, tonight is meant to be a celebration.

On this night, from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., people from all walks of life will come together at The Red Herring Lounge’s “Pre Election Funk and Soul Dance Party.”

Chef, organizer and writer Nyanyika Banda, of Duluth, came up with the idea for the event as well as helped put it together.

“In my hometown of Northampton, Massachusetts, my friends would throw a weekly soul night.  I really love dancing and missed those nights. In larger cities you can often find something similar so I wanted to provide Duluth with a taste,” Banda said.

The event will include performances from three music groups: “Big Wave Dave & The Ripples;”

“Hot Pants Mpls” and “Crunchy Bunch.”

“I hope the community members who attend find the joy in sharing the dance floor with others,” Banda said.

Banda is optimistic.

“If the response is good I'd be interested in trying to start a monthly or maybe weekly dance night,” she added.

If you are interested in dancing, check out The Red Herring Lounge tonight from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. The cost is $5 and all are welcome.
