Meet the staff: Jiaxun Fan

biophotosfan Who am I? :

My name is Jiaxun Fan and everyone calls me Fan (sounds like fun). I am a senior double major in Journalism and Piano Performance at University of Minnesota Duluth. Two years ago, I left China to study abroad. I have seen and learned so many things since then. Now, as the media specialist for CSSA (Chinese Scholar and Student Association) at UMD, I am in charge of making videos and promote our activities on social medias.

My LakeVoice position:

I am one of the Art people! In other words, I am responsible for making sure every story has something people can visualize. At the same time, I will help with video and audio production and editing.

What interest me?:

Cooking is never my thing until I have to live my own life in a foreign country. Reading recipes is the last thing I do before I sleep every night. The process of getting all the ingredients, creating your own tastes and watching people enjoy the food makes me feel life is beautiful and simple. Besides cooking, playing piano can be a large part of my life. Music is always a intimate friend whom you can find, talk and listen anytime. I enjoying playing by myself as well as playing for other people; piano is the second mouth of mine which I can tell stories by.

Why I chose Duluth? :

In the first 20 years of my life, I knew nothing about Duluth. All I knew is that one day, I am going to study in America. The opportunity came when I was a sophomore at Ocean University in China. I was so curious and excited when the International office staff of UMD talked about the connected building and wearing shorts during winter, lol. So, here I am, enjoying the winter, the different culture and challenges.
