After almost two years of planning, the University of Minnesota recently implemented a new wireless internet system across all campuses. According to Jason Davis, director of ITSS, the new network, called “eduroam,” replaced a nearly ten-year-old system.

A Word to You: Q&A with Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Life Corbin Smyth

Corbin Smyth is the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Life at UMD, a position he has held for five years. Smyth received his Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University, Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina and Doctorate from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. He loves living in Duluth, and in his free time enjoys mountain biking, hiking, coaching youth baseball and spending time with his two sons.

Raising Retention and Deepening Diversity at UMD

UMD’s first year retention rate is the highest it’s been in school history.  At 78.4 percent, UMD has recently reached an all-time high in first year student persistence for the fall 2015 freshman class, but is not yet at the goal of 80 percent.
