Thirty-six years ago today, on February 22nd, 1980, the United States Olympic team upset the Soviet Union 4-3. An iconic photo of the game that appeared in Sports Illustrated was recently voted to be the greatest Sports Illustrated magazine cover of all time.
But before they made history the United States Olympic team, with former Bulldogs Mark Pavelich and John Harrington, played an exhibition game against the University of Minnesota Duluth in the fall of 1979 in Eveleth, Minnesota.
