BY LAURA GRUHLKE | The Statesman | You can find your #MCM tonight at the Man of the Year competition in Kirby Ballroom at 7 p.m.
Sponsored by Greek Life, 13 contestants will compete for the crown and title of ‘Man of the Year’.
“Basically it’s a male beauty pageant,” Greek Life programming chair Ariana Hills said.
This event will consist of an all-male dance that was choreographed by UMD’s Attitudes Dance group. The separate competitions in this pageant include: formal wear, beach wear, talent and the classic fish bowl questions. All will be judged.
Though this is a competition, it is not necessarily competitive.
“It’s more about having fun with friends and getting to put on a good show for the school,” contestant Tim McMahon said.
Attendance at this show is free, but Greek Life is encouraging everyone to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to Champ’s Cupboard.
Winning this prestigious award not only gives a lot of pride to the winning man, but also the organization that they support.
“You get to go up there and represent them in the best way that you can,” former contestant Keanu Phousirith said.
“There’s no better feeling than representing your (organization) in a positive way,” McMahon said.
The goal of this event is to draw in crowds and get Greek Life’s name out there.
“If you like a bunch of booty shaking and twerking, this the show for you,” McMahon said.
