OPINION: The joys of the Thanksgiving Burrito

BY MADDIE GINSBERG | Guest Columnist | December is referenced as the most wonderful time of the year but let’s be honest, November at Burrito Union is actually the most wonderful time of the year. That would be because of the Thanksgiving Burrito (TGB).

Thanksgiving is the time of year that each family comes together with their own traditions. For one night, or at least one hour, everyone gets along. The food at Thanksgiving is something that the whole family can agree on. It is wonderful time of year and you have football all day long. You can’t go wrong with that.

Now the sad thing is that Thanksgiving is only one day out of the year. But every November, Burrito Union rolls out their famous Thanksgiving Burrito  (TGB). If you haven't tried one you are missing out and if you have then you understand what I am talking about. The Thanksgiving Burrito is what I look forward to every year.

For those that do not know, a TGB consists of a flour tortilla, turkey, stuffing, sweet potato/yams, corn and cranberry salsa, all served with a side of gravy and chips. To simplify things, it is the best single item of food you will ever eat.

This past week I, wanting my family to try the TGB, brought two down to the cities. My mom and brother were shocked about how much they loved it. My mom even mentioned that this is how we should serve thanksgiving: wrapped in a tortilla.

To be honest, I was a little surprised that my mom liked it. I figured she would say it was alright but not how she likes her Thanksgiving meal. And if that woman liked the TGB, then anyone will like it. Next time I go home, I was told I have to bring more back with me in exchange for a place to sleep.

In the first four days of this month, I had two TGBs. This burrito takes the best day of the year and wraps it all up into a meal of epic proportions. And I will tell you that yes, I have made one at home with my thanksgiving leftovers. It doesn’t cost anything and tastes just as good as the one at Burrito Union.

I won't lie, there are times that I wish this burrito was offered every day of the year because who doesn’t want a thanksgiving meal in March? I know I would. However, if Burrito Union offered the greatest burrito on earth every day of the year, it wouldn’t be as special.

Do yourself a favor, go to BU or use your Thanksgiving leftovers. Make or buy a TGB before you miss your chance and have to wait until next year. Food brings people and families together and having a Thanksgiving burrito makes me all the more excited to go home for Thanksgiving.
