Since the attempted abduction that occurred Jan. 16, police have received 11 potential leads and an outpour of support from the Duluth community. There is an ongoing investigation to find the suspect that attempted to lure a juvenile into his car off the intersection of Ordean Court and University Drive a week and a half ago. Forces responded immediately to the situation when they got the 911 call and continue to work diligently.
“We can never say we are 100 percent going to find the guy, but we are doing absolutely everything we can,” police Sgt. Mike Brostrom said. “The public has also been very helpful in reporting their suspicions.”
Brostrom said he can’t give away too much information in order to protect the open case, but did say that police are confident in their investigation.
UMDPD is working closely with surrounding police departments in the Duluth area. Forces have requested camera footage and are staying in close contact with the victim and those involved with the incident.
“We have followed up, or are currently following up, with the potential leads that we have received,” Brostrom said. “This was an event that we are taking very seriously.”
UMD officers will share more information with the public when they receive it, and are constantly sharing information on their UMDPD website. The crime log is updated daily.
“We have shared all that we can right now,” Brostrom said. “It’s important to protect the case.”
Police, in the meantime, will alert the public when they need to. The public can stay connected by going to the UMDPD’s website.
The suspect is said to be a 40-year-old white male with dark, mid-length hair. He was driving a black SUV with rust on the rear wheel wells. Anyone with any information is encouraged to report it to the police.
