Business profile: The Surf Shack

As the summer continues and Duluth is blessed with warm summer weather, the Surf Shack welcomes visitors to rent stand-up paddleboards, surf skis, and sit-on-top kayaks. All of the equipment is welcome for use by all skill levels and best for people ages 13 and up. Located on 60th Ave. E & London Road, Randy Carlson a coordinator for the shack, talks about how great it is to experience Lake Superior in the evenings on the water.

The Surf Shack located at the mouth of the Lester River, is a historical location as it was once the Lester River Fish Hatchery in the early 1900s. By 1955 it was turned over to the University of Minnesota Duluth and in the last four years it has become a place for recreational programs such as, stand-up paddleboards, surf skis, and sit-on-top kayaks.

These programs are welcome for not only UMD staff, faculty, and students but also anyone willing to dip into the cool waters of Lake Superior. Programs consist of demos, and most equipment.
