Fall storms blast Twin Ports beaches

IMG_4107 Small but determined groups of observers, braving high winds and driving rain, dotted beaches throughout the Twin Ports on Saturday, Oct., 6  to catch a glimpse of Mother Nature's raw power.  Onlookers watched as waves from October's first storms engulfed breakwaters and soaked the occasional person.

Powerful winds persisted throughout the day, with gusts at Duluth's Sky Harbor airport exceeding 45 miles per hour numerous times. Strong gusts continued well past nightfall.

A gale warning for the Twin Ports, extending from Two Harbors, Minn. to Port Wing, Wis., remains in effect from the National Weather Service until 4 a.m. CDT Sunday.
