UMD United for all Families—a coalition of MPIRG and UMD staff, students, and faculty—will gather to film a lip-dub music video to promote marriage equality on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, April 29 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. We will meet outside the UMD Library at 416 Library Drive, Duluth, MN 55812.
We wanted to do something fun for Marriage Equality, and decided that a great way to get students, staff, and faculty involved would be to create a music video. They will be filming a music video to the song “Home,” by Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. It will be a lip-sync and no performance experience is necessary. We are encouraging people to make signs that will be shown in the video. This can be very creative, some say “Vote No,” “Marriage means…,” “Love for All” and others that are LGBTQA friendly.
The purpose of this video is to inform Minnesota voters on the proposed marriage amendment on the November 6 ballot. The campaign is working to actively defeat the amendment. If passed, it will put in the Minnesota state constitution that marriage is a union between one man and one woman, and would also permanently exclude same-sex couples from ever having the freedom to marry. The video will show people why they should vote no.
